Minister for Justice Siromi Turaga is aware of but will not interfere in the issues surrounding the Fiji National Rugby League as two board members claim the position of chairmanship.

Over the last week, board member Rajesh Singh had claimed he was voted in as chairman of the FNRL.

The minutes of this was sent to the Fiji National Sports Commission’s chief executive, Peter Mazey who had acknowledged receiving the email.

Singh also admitted that he has put out an advertisement notice, in search for a new Fiji Bati head coach with only seven months left until the Rugby League World Cup.

While this is happening, the FNRL released a statement saying that board member Apenisa Dansey is the only elected chairman, they dismissed the advertisement and said that Singh was terminated from the board.

Turaga told this newspaper that he will only interfere if there are serious governance issues at play.

“I have not interfered because it has not been brought to my attention. I think there are some mechanisms within the organisation that can resolve.

“I think you may be referring why I have not intervened compared to the Fiji Rugby Union, that’s different. They were a charitable organisation with governance issues so that’s what warranted me in taking that step to dismiss the board and get the interim team in.

“I am not going to be involved until it is brought to my attention, if it deals with governance issues,” he said.
