Ubbayd Haider claims he is the new face of boxing in Fiji after he defeated Mohammed Ali during the Blue Water Boxing Promotions in Suva on Saturday night.

Haider, formerly known as Nathan Singh, won the bout by unanimous points decision in the main supporting bout at the Vodafone Arena.

“The fight was good, Ali was a tough competitor, I came here to stop him, but he came to survive and that’s what he did. I was full on the attack, and I could hear the gang from his corner telling him to run, not to stand still and that’s what he did,” Haider stated.

The fight fuelled his confidence as he called out Mikaele Ravalaca and Ratu Rakuro.

“Hopefully I get to face Mikaele Ravalaca or Ratu Rakuro, I really want to face these two before I head to the United States so, I’ll wait for my promoter and manager to decide what’s next for me.

“People would say I’m bragging but I’m the new face of boxing in Fiji, people right now they want to see the prince and all these other boxers are calling me out. They need the fight, not me so, at the end of the day they need to accept the terms that I bring on to make the fights happen.”

While he awaits his next move, Ali, who was the fan favourite on Saturday night, is demanding a rematch.

“I found the fight easy in every round, I had to lose weight, so I wasn’t that strong, but I gave it my best and fought, I hope the fans loved my fight, there’s more to come. I want a rematch, let’s make it happen,” said the son of local boxing veteran ‘The Razor’ Farzan Ali.

“Nathan, where’s the sleep you were saying, dropping my weight but I still stood in front of you, I’m strong and you cannot make me sleep.”
