Graduates who studied under the Tertiary Education Loan Scheme (TELS) and are residing overseas will continue to repay their loans through existing arrangements with the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FCRS).

Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS) CEO Hasmukh Lal told reporters this week that if for any reason the students failed to meet this arrangement, their pending debts would be recovered from their guarantors.

This would also apply to students who intended to travel abroad for medical, vacation and temporary work purposes.

Mr Lal said TELS-funded graduates who intended to migrate before their bond service period ended would be required to pay the amount owed to government for the remaining period of their bond service.

In addition, graduates who had fully or partially repaid their loans would not be reimbursed from the date the amendment Act comes into effect.

Mr Lal said students who had partially repaid their loans would have their outstanding amount converted into bond service.
