Government is now assessing whether schools will need to close tomorrow due to the bad weather currently affecting some parts of the country.
National Disaster Management Minister Sakiasi Ditoka said his ministry and the education sector are liaising on whether there needs to be school closures.
“An appropriate advisory will be released in that regard,” he said.
Mr Ditoka urged the public to follow all official advisories and to take necessary precautions to protect lives and property.
“For communities in low-lying areas that are in danger of being inundated with floodwaters, if there is a need to evacuate, please do so while it is still daylight,” he said.
He reminded the public not to cross flooded roads, crossings, walkways or drains, especially where water was above knee level.
