Government plans to hire social media influencers for municipal election civic education
For the first time, the Fiji Government is inviting social media influencers to help educate voters ahead of the upcoming Local Government Elections.
The Ministry of Local Government has issued an Expression of Interest (EOI) calling on qualified influencers to collaborate on civic education and public awareness campaigns — a move aimed at reaching younger audiences and communities that rely heavily on digital platforms.
The initiative forms part of a national programme to improve public
According to the Ministry, influencers will be expected to produce neutral, non-partisan content, explaining issues such as who can vote, who can stand as a candidate, how municipal councils work, and why participation in local elections matters.
The campaign will particularly target youth, urban residents, and villages within municipal wards.
Influencers must be active on at least one major platform — such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok or YouTube — and have a verifiable following.
They are also required to demonstrate experience in public engagement and the ability to produce accurate, responsible content.
Content may include short videos, explainer posts, static graphics, or interactive material, subject to approval by the Ministry.
