The much hyped up 3000 homes under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) Affordable Housing Project has hit a dead end.

Cabinet yesterday endorsed the closure of the Public Private Partnership (PPP) Affordable Housing Project.

The decision was taken after it was determined that the project was not financially feasible for the Government.

A Cabinet statement said the five sites set aside for the project will be returned to the Housing Authority of Fiji.

The project was initiated by the Fiji First government, who had partnered with the International Finance Corporation (IFC).

In March 2023, six sites were selected in Fiji’s Central and Western divisions for the Public Private Partnership (PPP) Affordable Housing Project.

They were Raiwaqa, Nepani, Wainibuku and Davuilevu; and the two sites in the Western Division are Tavakubu and Tavua.

In October 2023, while launching the tender process for the project, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Professor Biman Prasad said Government hoped to mobilise more than $500million in private financing for its Private-Public Partnership (PPP) affordable housing project,

Mr Prasad had said the project will be a big boost to the local economy and the investment climate in Fiji.
