The Ministry of Civil Service has announced revisions to the Internship and Graduate Trainee (IGT) Programme Framework to align with the 2025–2026 national budget.
The updated framework emphasizes a more demand-driven approach to recruitment, with the Ministry of Civil Service coordinating the placement of diploma graduates, interns, and graduate trainees based on ministry-specific needs.
The key change in the revised framework now makes individual ministries responsible for funding and managing the recruitment, engagement, and absorption of interns and graduate trainees. The Ministry of Civil Service will provide support for only the initial six months of placement.
“The funding for Interns and Graduate Trainees will be the responsibility of each Ministry while some assistance will be provided by the Ministry of Civil Service for the initial 6 months,” Pita Tagicakirewa, Acting Permanent Secretary for Civil Service states in a circular.
Despite the change in funding responsibility, the IGT Framework will continue to serve as a pathway for young talents to enter the civil service.
It aims to enhance their skills and ensure smoother integration into the public workforce, ultimately improving their readiness for full-time employment.
All ministries are encouraged to utilize the IGT Merit Pool list and align with the revised framework in their recruitment processes.
