Fiji’s Cabinet has approved the lifting of the ban on the harvest and trade of bêche-de-mer, subject to strict conditions to protect sustainability.
Harvesting of approved species will be allowed for four months, from 1 February 2026 to 30 May 2026.
A further two-month period, until 30 July 2026, will allow for processing and export by licensed traders.
The Ministry of Fisheries will closely monitor harvesting and trade to ensure sustainable practices are upheld.
The measured approach is designed to support livelihoods while safeguarding marine resources for future generations.
