Government has imposed a freeze on new appointments and vacancy advertisements across the public service.
The directive was issued by Permanent Secretary for Civil Service Pita Tagicakirewa in a circular dated May 6.
Under the circular, no new appointments will be made during the freeze period.
The document also states that no new vacancies are to be advertised or processed while the freeze remains in effect.
“No new appointment will be made,” the circular stated.
It further noted that where a Permanent Secretary, with the agreement of the relevant Minister, had already made a decision under Section 127(7) of the Constitution, the decision would only be implemented after the freeze is lifted.
The circular also clarified that aged vacancies previously communicated through MCS Circular No. 4/2026 would remain valid.
The latest directive signals tighter controls within the civil service as Government reviews recruitment and staffing processes.
No timeframe was provided in the circular on how long the freeze would remain in place.
