Government has been commended for its efforts to clear conspiracy theories and misinformation surrounding the National Identification (NID) Draft Bill.

Navoli, Ba resident Matelita Ratu shared her relief after attending a one-on-one awareness session at the Ba Market, conducted by a team from the Ministry of Policing and Communications in partnership with the Reserve Bank of Fiji last week.

Ms Ratu said before the session, she had significant reservations regarding the proposed legislation.

“There has been a lot of conspiracy surrounding this, I asked about this since I was worried and they said there was nothing to worry about,” she said.

The outreach program aims to provide factual clarity on the draft bill as it moves through the consultative stages.

For residents like Ms Ratu, face-to-face interaction was the key to dispelling fears.

“I now know that there is nothing to be concerned about, most would be worried, but my concerns have been addressed.”
