Cabinet has approved a total of $36,535,652.27 to top up sugarcane payments.
This reinforces Government’s commitment to the guaranteed cane price of $85.00 per tonne.
The package includes a top-up of $10.07 per tonne for the third cane payment to be made on April 20.
There is an allocation of $6.77 per tonne for the fourth payment to be made on May 30.
$5.16 per tonne for the final payment will be made in October.
The Government says the financial support is aimed at strengthening farmers’ livelihoods while assisting with preparations for the 2026 crushing season.
