Gospel High School has been ruled out of the Southern Zone Secondary Schools Deans Rugby under-18 semi-finals on “a technical ground”, a senior competition official revealed.

Gospel was to play Suva Grammar School in tomorrow’s U18 match at Veiuto but has been replaced by Sacred Heart College.

Zone president Rusiate Wadali confirmed the redraw but did not reveal on what grounds.

“Sacred Heart College U18 side has replaced Gospel High School on a technical ground, and we are hoping that Sacred Heart can give a good game to Suva Grammar this week,” said Wadali.

The other semi-final is between Marist Brothers High School and Nasinu Secondary School.

Wadali said teams in the semi-finals in all the grades were excited and preparations were heating up with minnows ready to take on the big schools in rugby.

“The teams that have qualified from the quarterfinals are the teams that have been dominating throughout the tournament. There are some unexpected teams also in and we could be looking at some upsets,” he said.

“A good example is in the under-17 competition we have Mahatma Gandi Memorial High School coming in. Last year our top three for the national finals were Marist Brothers High School, Suva Grammar School, and Nasinu Secondary School, and this time round if those top three are not focused, then MGM could really create an upset.”

Games start at 8.30am at Suva Grammar grounds.
