AFTER a successful inter-house meet at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva yesterday, it’s on to the next task for Gospel High School; the Suva Zone Two athletics meet next week.

The school wrapped up an intense day of athletics at the stadium, held under fine weather conditions as more than 100 athletes ran, jumped and threw for a chance to earn a spot in the school squad for next week.

School head coach Watisoni Delana has admitted the zone athletics meet would be a tough one, however, the outcomes they achieved yesterday would be the stepping stone to getting them onward to next week.

“Our zone (athletics meet) is next week on Tuesday and Wednesday; it’s a very tough zone (athletics meet) but whatever outcomes we achieve today, we’re able to prepare a team to represent our school for next week’s zone,” Delana said.

He added preparations for the interhouse meet had progressed smoothly and with a desire for all students to participate to see which new talents would emerge.

“We identified some students from last year and we’ve been training together and today (yesterday) we were able to showcase the talents they have and we’re also able to identify some of our students that (will) represent our school for next week’s zone (athletics meet).”

The school will be competing in the Suva Zone Two athletics meet next week alongside schools in the greater Suva area such as Marist Brothers High School, Suva Grammar School and St Joseph’s Secondary School.

Meanwhile, Mathew (green) and John (yellow) won the boys and girls divisions respectively.
