ACCURACY is needed in the very important exercise that the Fiji Elections Office is about to embark on to produce a Google map that will help voters locate their polling venues in the 2018 General Election.
This was highlighted by the Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem, to participants of a two-day Polling Venue Assessment Training Workshop, which will end today.
Mr Saneem said the information was critical for the operations of the next election.
He said it was important for the participants to be honest in their work.
“We will send out a verification team to conduct an audit of the work that you have done,” he said.
Mr Saneem said the data gathered needed to be periodically reviewed by those who would be stationed in the office.
“Buildings change, ownership changes because of climate change,” he said.
“There may be polling stations or polling venues that may no longer be suitable to our needs. Therefore you must implement a periodical review of the polling stations.”
Mr Saneem urged the participants to undergo the processes so that the data could be published as quickly as possible so it could give more time for scrutiny by political parties, voters and interested persons.
