The manicured grounds of the Fiji Golf Club in Vatuwaqa were bustling with activity as its weekly Stableford tournament took place yesterday.
Mali Pest Control were the sponsors for the one-day event, as 70 golfers took to the tee to swing their shot in friendly competition amongst golfers of various ages.
Alvin Nair was one of the golfers present at the meet and spoke of the level of play he got to be a part of, adding the fine weather being a conducive aspect of the tourney.
“There’s a lot of members who have turned up since morning, because the weather is fine and it’s more playable,” Nair stated.
He also highlighted the cordial atmosphere amongst his fellow golfers, revelling in the notion of being in each other’s company.
“It’s pretty easy, because all the golfers play and when we come back to the courthouse, it’s basically a friendship and social activities (follow) after that,” he said.
While he acknowledged their company during the meet yesterday, he urged young golfers wanting to take up the sport to do so and encouraged them to attend competitions as such.
“We have young golfers coming from the junior members from the members side, the junior golfers who come in to participate and we do encourage them all the time to come and attend,” Nair emphasised.
Meanwhile, the East vs West tournament will take place today at the club, amassing the likes of seasoned golfers from around the country for another day of golf at the tee.
