The Fiji Amateur Boxing concluded it’s first day of its Golden Gloves competition yesterday at the Stanely Brown Gym in Walu Bay Suva.
National coach Cam Todd said he was impressed by the nine semi-final bouts that happened yesterday, and he anticipates some greats fights in the finals tomorrow.
“There were some good bouts today, it’s setting us for some nice finals tomorrow, so tomorrow we got 21 bouts from sub-junior all the way to elite featuring a number of our athletes who are vying for commonwealth games as well, so it will be a really good day tomorrow.” Todd explained.
Meanwhile national rep Iokimi Navuasese closed out the competition yesterday with a dominate performance, his win sets him up for an exciting final against fellow national rep Stephen Ledua.
Despite the win Navusese was not satisfied with performance and will need to step tomorrow in the finals.
“It’s been a long time since I boxed and I’m not really happy with my performance today, tomorrow I will need to set up especially against a quality opponent like Stephen Ledua,” he said.
Tomorrow’s finals promise to bring lots of thrilling and exciting match up as the championships will also serve as qualifier for the upcoming commonwealth games.
Coach Todd is calling on fans to come in numbers and witness some of our future boxing stars at the Fiji Amateur Boxing Golden Gloves Championships today.
