TEAM Fiji weightlifter Taniela Rainibogi achieved a significant milestone by securing Fiji a senior gold medal at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship which ended at the Vodafone Arena in Suva yesterday.
In an exceptional display of strength and skill, Rainibogi lifted 167kg in the snatch category and set a new Commonwealth record with a 211kg lift in the clean and jerk category for the 109kg weight class.
Encouraged by the emergence of talented young lifters, Rainibogi sees a promising future for weightlifting in Fiji.
He plans to take a step back to allow his shoulders to recover before resuming training.
With his sights set on the upcoming Commonwealth Games in December, Rainibogi remains determined to continue his success on the international weightlifting stage and inspire the next generation of Fijian lifters.
