Golden Age Home Lautoka seeks urgent community support for relocation

Listen to this article:

The Golden Age Home in Lautoka is facing a critical transition as its current building, plagued by termite infestation and structural decay, has been declared unsafe and unfit for habitation.

In a public plea, the Board of Visitors state 36 elderly residents are currently staying at the home in Natabua.

A relocation to a temporary facility at the former Lautoka Police Station on MN Naidu Road is now underway.

“The new premises, while a vital refuge, require urgent refurbishment to meet the safety, comfort, and care standards that the residents deserve,” states the Board.

“To ensure a smooth transition and maintain the high quality of life for its seniors, the Golden Age Home is appealing to the public, corporate organizations, faith-based groups, and well-wishers for support.”

“Contributions in the form of cash donations or in-kind items—such as bedding, clothing, kitchen utensils, cutlery, ironing boards, and other essentials—are desperately needed.”

Due to a bed bug infestation, all existing beds, sheets, blankets, clothing, and furniture must be destroyed to prevent contamination at the new facility.”

Renovations at the temporary facility are underway and expected to be completed by early August 2025.
