Gold for bowls

THE Fiji lawn bowls team picked up two gold medals, one silver and one bronze yesterday at the greens in Bisini in Port Moresby.

After a great start, Semesa Naiseruvati won the singles event while in the women’s triples, Litia Tikoisuva, Elizabeth Moceiwai and Cheryl Mar went on to take top honours.

The women’s pairs team won a silver while the men’s fours team won a bronze medal.

Naiseruvati was confident from the first day of competition. He beat Cook Islands in the semi-finals and went on to beat Norfolk in the final.

The pairs team of Radhika Prasad and Sarote Hiagi, after losing their first game, they managed to bounce back and win all their matches up until the final where they lost to PNG.

The men’s fours team had a great outing and missed out on the gold medal playoffs narrowly.

Section manager Curtis Mar said this was an impressive performance and they were hoping to get more medals as the tournament progressed.
