ALBERT Park was a hub of activity yesterday as kids from all over Suva got a chance to learn the skills of rugby from representatives of the Fiji Airways Fiji men’s and women’s 7s teams.
This rugby clinic was an initiative by the Fiji Rugby Union, part of the week-long symposium that ended yesterday.
Kids got the chance to go through rugby drills, learn essential skills and enjoy a fun-filled Friday afternoon, connecting with our national sevens heroes.
Fiji men’s 7s head coach Osea Kolinisau said this was a good way to engage with their most loyal supporters.
“It’s a good initiative to have the kids here. We have our dinner tonight (last night) and I got all the boys even from the west to come here.
“It’s a good initiative for the boys to be around the kids, I’ve always told them that the kids are the best supporters ever, win or lose they’ll stand by you no matter what.
“We are just focusing on today (yesterday), focusing on enjoying our time with the kids, the future of Fiji Rugby, they are the best supporters, and I wanted the boys to come and meet them, interact with them and it allows us to give back to the very kids that enjoy 7s,” he said.
Kolinisau said that the rugby clinic is an essence of what the FRU aimed to enforce during the symposium this week.
“It shows where we want to go, it shows the growth mindset, making sure that everyone is aligned with Fiji Rugby’s vision.
“Most of all, it got the stakeholders to know about Fiji Rugby’s goals, where the plans lie and we want to get them involved because they are very important and they play a huge role.”
The Fiji 7s teams will gear up for the 2026 HSBC Sevens Series which now has a new structure featuring an expanded calendar from 10 to 13 tournaments.
