SALOTE Hannah Daucakacaka’s final act of love for her mother Silipa Samo was to insist on going to a nearby shop to buy food for their Saturday lunch.

The nine-year-old Korovuto Primary School student left their home in Bulubulu Rd with the intention to come back.

But Mrs Samo said that was the last time she saw her daughter alive.

Hannah, as she was lovingly called by loved ones, died along the Queens Highway on Saturday morning when she was struck by a vehicle driven by a 43-year-old woman.

Mrs Samo said she only found out her child was gone when she became worried that the Year 4 student was taking too long to return home.

“I went out to the road to check on her and that’s when I saw a long line of cars on the highway,” said Mrs Samo.

“I saw the police cars and an ambulance, and I knew immediately it was Hannah.

“I could not stop crying and just kept crying out for her.”

Hannah’s adopted father Rusiate Samo said Hannah was a confident child who was not afraid to speak her mind.

“She was not afraid to speak up and say what she was thinking,” said Mr Samo.

“She was known to everyone in church, in school and even our neighbours.

“She did not hesitate to help people.”

Police confirmed a post-mortem examination would be carried later this week while investigations continue.

The national road death toll stands at 11 compared with seven for the same period last year.
