FIJI national Futsal head coach Jose Gerardo commended the dedication and enthusiasm of coaches from the Northern Division following a successful Futsal Coaching Course held at the Fiji FA Academy in Labasa over the weekend.

The three-day course drew 15 participants from various districts including Dreketi, Bua, Udu, Savusavu, and Labasa, as part of Fiji FA’s ongoing efforts to promote futsal nationwide.

Gerardo expressed his satisfaction with the response from the North, noting the coaches’ eagerness to learn and their strong interest in developing futsal in their communities.

He was particularly encouraged by the attendance of a female participant from Udu Point, a schoolteacher, which he saw as a positive sign of futsal’s increasing popularity.

The national futsal head coach emphasised the importance of grassroots development in the Northern Division, stating that the knowledge gained from the course would help enhance the level of futsal in the region.

He highlighted the significance of coaching fundamentals, methods, and game principles in improving the sport’s standards.

“I’m very happy with the response from the North,” Gerardo said.

“The coaches were eager to learn and showed great interest in developing futsal in their respective districts.

He stressed the importance of these trials in identifying and nurturing young futsal talent for future competitions, such as the Youth Olympics.
