George sworn-in as Acting Chief Magistrate

Waleen Maria George was sworn-in as Acting Chief Magistrate of the Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

Ms George who is the current Senior Resident Magistrate at the Suva Magistrates Court recited her oath before the President, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere at the swearing-in ceremony.

She holds a Professional Diploma in Legal Practice from the University of the South Pacific in Suva, Bachelor of Laws from the University of the South Pacific, Emalus Campus in Vanuatu and a Certificate in Law (Criminal Law) from the University of the South Pacific in Suva.

Ms George was admitted to the High Court of Fiji to practice as a Barrister and Solicitor in September of 2006 and also joined the DPP’s office as a Legal Officer.

In 2011, she joined the Judiciary as Resident Magistrate at the Nausori Courts before being transferred to Suva in 2012 and was later promoted as the Senior Resident Magistrate in 2018.
