Organisers of the annual Fiji secondary school’s athletics event and sponsors have agreed to revert the name of the competition to its original title.
To mark its 50th anniversary next year, the name of the renowned Coca-Cola Games will be recalled the Fiji Finals.
Fiji Secondary Schools Athletics Association acting secretary Biu Colati says after discussions with their sponsor Coca-Cola, it had been agreed that the annual event will now be called the Fiji Finals.
“We met with the board for Coca-Cola and asked if the name of the competition can be reverted to the Fiji Finals, and they agreed,” Colati said.
“We wanted to change it to the Fiji Finals because this is what it used to be called in the past.”
Colati said there had been no discussions to remove the sponsor’s name from the tournament completely.
“These talks about us wanting to remove Coca-Cola, or the branding from the competition is false,” he clarified
“There were no issues in them agreeing to this so it will be going on ahead next year.”
Meanwhile, he said Coca-Cola’s sponsorship with the Fiji Secondary Schools Athletics Association will expire next year but could not comment on whether or not the company will renew their partnership.
“Yes Coca-Cola’s sponsorship for the Fiji Finals will expire next year, but it will be after the competition,” Colati said.
“However, I am not able to answer right now if the sponsorship will be renewed or not.”
