THE G-11 group of independent MPs has pledged its full support for Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, confirming it will vote in favour of the Constitution Amendment Bill No. 32 without reservations.

Group leader and Minister for Policing Ioane Naivalurua said the group’s meeting with Mr Rabuka on Tuesday was specifically to reaffirm its support for the Prime Minister and his leadership.

“The sole reason for this particular meet was just to reassure the Prime Minister that we are there with him, all the way,” he said.

Asked whether the group would support the Bill during its parliamentary proceedings, Mr Naivalurua was unequivocal.

“Definitely, absolutely,” he said, adding that members had no reservations about its clauses.

“We’ve been with the Prime Minister for some time now, we have supported the Prime Minister, and there’s nothing wrong.”

Mr Naivalurua said the group was moving beyond past political divisions and wanted to focus on national interests and the people.

“It’s no longer singing the rhetoric of the past, the emotion of the past, it’s about focusing on our people and our nation.”

He also indicated the group was open to expanding its membership by attracting more independent Opposition MPs.

“We would like to have a few more joining us from opposition, and make it G-15.”

The G-11 comprises 11 MPs, including Mr Naivalurua, Viliame Naupoto, Mosese Bulitavu and Sachida Nand.
