Government will fund the establishment of the Fiji Public Sector Learning Institute.
A statement released after this week’s Cabinet meeting said this would be done in consultation with the local universities to determine the best operating modality.
Part of its role will be to deliver high-quality learning programs targeted to the needs of Fiji’s civil service and public sector workforce.
“The institute’s primary purpose will be to provide high quality, future-focused learning to ensure the civil service has a skilled and experienced work force to build a strong future for Fiji,” the statement read.
In addition, the institute is expected to partner with training and human resource staff to identify training needs to be supported.
It will also provide advice to the Public Service Commission (PSC) to further ascertain the needs of the civil service, reintroduce service exams, and provide training on customer service, statutes and legislations, governance, and leadership, among other areas.
“The institute is initially expected to be funded by the Government, as well as assistance from our development partners, with eventual progression towards a self-sustaining model.
