Drug Free World Fiji founder Kalesi Volatabu believes the Government should look into existing structures for potential rehabilitation centres.
In an interview with The Fiji Times online news portal, The Lens@177, Ms Volatabu said existing structures such as Fulton College in Tailevu should be considered rehabilitation facilities.
“You look across the country to see what structure is already in place but hasn’t been used,” she said.
“One thing that came up is Fulton College in Korovou, and that is a perfect site because it has the structure in place for anything that you would need to help rehabilitate (an individual) and the land for farming as well.
“That’s where we are right now, and I’m sure there’s already a shift, there’s already a movement with different ministries to actually go out there and say OK.”
Ms Volatabu said the Government was focused on establishing rehabilitation centres.
“The Ministry of Women and Children is working with the Methodist Church of Fiji and Rotuma. They have been given three sites and they are renovating, and they say it’ll take up to two years. That’s for the young children.
“For the adults, I know the Ministry of Health is looking at different sites as well.”
