FIJI Airways services to and from Auckland returned to normal scheduled operations after the jet fuel issues affecting its Auckland flights was rectified with aviation fuel supply restored as of Thursday afternoon.
A statement from the national airline said they would like to thank passengers for their co-operation and understanding over the past few weeks while it was dealing with the fuel shortage issue.
Meanwhile the airline advised their Fiji Airways passengers travelling to Funafuti, Tuvalu of the possible disruptions to their flight, including passenger denied boarding and baggage offloads, as a result of the unavailability of fuel supply on the island.
Fiji Airways executive general manager corporate affairs, Shaenaz Voss said: “We acknowledge it is unfortunate, but a necessary step we must take in order to operate the service.
“This is an issue we continue to face and have highlighted to the Tuvalu Government to address.
“We apologise to our passengers who may face disruptions to their travel plans due to this fuel issue which is out of our control.”
The statement said the fuel shortage issue had been ongoing since last week and shortage of aviation fuel meant that the aircraft needed to carry sufficient fuel for the return journey and therefore required the extra weight.
It said the next shipment of aviation fuel replacement stock was expected to arrive on October 5.
Until then, the current contingency of carrying return fuel will remain in effect, with the expected passenger and baggage offloads as required to operate the flight safely.
