The Fiji Sugar Corporation has announced a forecast cane price of $57.40 per tonne for the 2026 crushing season.

$71.41 per tonne of cane payment was the forecast price for the 2025 season and the forecast price for 2024 was $71.77.

In a statement, FSC said the forecast price was determined in accordance with Regulations 19.1(i) and 19.1(ii) of the Sugar Industry Tribunal Master Award and based on estimates provided to the Tribunal.

“The Fiji Sugar Corporation Limited hereby announces a forecast price of $57.40 per tonne of cane for the 2026 season,” the statement said.

FSC said the first payment for the 2026 season would be equivalent to 60 percent of the forecast cane price.

“The first payment for 2026 season cane deliveries will therefore be $34.44 per tonne of cane, being 60% of the forecast price as determined by FSC,” the Corporation stated.

The Corporation also announced an increase in the delivery cane price through an additional top-up payment.

“The delivery cane price will be increased to $42.00 through a top-up of $7.56,” FSC said.

The announcement comes as cane farmers prepare for the start of the 2026 harvesting and crushing season, with industry stakeholders closely monitoring forecast prices amid concerns over production costs, harvesting expenses and broader challenges facing the sugar sector.

The forecast cane price is a key benchmark used by growers to plan harvesting operations, labour costs, transportation and other seasonal expenses.

FSC said the forecast was issued under the provisions of the Sugar Industry Tribunal Master Award and forms part of the payment framework governing cane deliveries for the upcoming season.
