THe Fiji Rugby Union is awaiting legal advice before it makes any comments on claims made by the Malolo Rugby Union.
In a press conference at the Rugby House yesterday, FRU acting CEO Koli Sewabu stated they are aware of the claims.
“With regards to the Malolo incident, I won’t be able to comment on the details of it, because at the moment I’m awaiting a final green light from our legal team, before we respond to Malolo and our stakeholders in the media. So that’s currently in progress, it’s taken some time.”
Malolo has alleged serious discrepancies regarding gate takings from the 2025 Skipper Cup competition.
Sewabu expressed hope to resolve the matter before the end of the year, aiming for a fresh start in 2026.
He added that FRU initially reached out to Malolo after the Skipper Cup finals due to the issues that arose then.
However, their scheduled meeting in Nadi was canceled just ten minutes before it was to begin.
Recently, FRU also attempted to engage with Malolo at their General Assembly in Nadi on December 6, but Malolo’s President left halfway through the meeting.
Following this, Malolo posted their allegations on social media.
“So, the General Assembly, everyone was there. So that was a good time for us to discuss issues that have happened in 2025 and how can we move forward, find a solution, move forward. So halfway through, the President left,” Sewabu explained.
He assured that the matter would be addressed as the union awaits advice from their legal team.
The post has since been removed from Malolo Rugby’s Facebook page.
