National operations manager of the Fiji Rugby Union Sale Sorovaki, has thrown down the gauntlet to Ba Rugby Union, urging them to make waves in the 2024 Skipper Cup competition.
Sorovaki issued this challenge to Ba Rugby during the grand launch of the Tikina Championship in Nailaga Village on Wednesday.
“In the annals of Skipper Cup history, no team elevated from the vanua ranks has ever managed to disrupt the equilibrium of this competition in the face of the giants that perennially dominate,” Sorovaki declared.
“So, I pose the question: Can Ba rugby become the inaugural team to deliver the fierce competition we yearn for?”
Sorovaki firmly believes that the Tikina Championship represents a positive approach for Ba Rugby Union, a vital stepping stone as they gear up for the Skipper Cup.
“It is a commendable endeavour by Ba Rugby Union, who have diligently toiled within a tight timeframe to bring this competition to life, introducing a fresh perspective,” Sorovaki remarked.
“The FRU stands shoulder to shoulder with BRU, providing invaluable support through the enhancement of coaching staff and referees.”
Jeremy Duxbury, a spokesperson for BRU, expressed his enthusiasm for the idea of the championship.
He stressed that it not only aids the villages tucked away in Ba’s heartland in terms of infrastructure and competition but also streamlines the scouting process for BRU head coach Filimoni Delasau, who can now focus on evaluating talent from eight teams rather than the daunting task of sifting through 22 different clubs.
