“I believe the team (Flying Fijians) has proven themselves every time they step on to the field, and I believe it will be an exciting game to watch.”

This is the message from Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) Board chairman John Sanday, as the Fiji Water Flying Fijians prepare to take on Canada in the upcoming Asahi Pacific Nations Cup semi-final.

Fiji has a history of facing Canada on over 12 occasions, boasting an impressive record of nine wins and three losses.

As the ninth-ranked team in the world, Fiji faces the 24th-ranked Canada, providing an opportunity for the Canadian team to make their mark in this highly anticipated match.

Sanday praised the efforts of the players and coaching staff, acknowledging the hard work and dedication that have brought the team to this stage.

“The boys have done the hard yards, the coaching staff are aware of the task ahead, and we are just looking forward to the match,” said Sanday.

He highlighted the team’s ability to overcome challenges and emerge victorious, emphasising their resilience and teamwork as the foundation of their success.

Acknowledging Canada’s qualification for the Rugby World Cup and their progress in the sport, Sanday welcomed their presence in the competition and looked forward to a competitive game.

“As we know, Canada is also qualified for the Rugby World Cup. It’s good to see them back in the World Cup, they have been away for too long. It’s good to see the Canadian rugby team rise to the next level.”

He calls upon fans and supporters, both locally and internationally, to show their support and cheer on the team as they strive for victory in the semi-final match.

The Flying Fijians will play Canada at 12.35pm on Monday at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Denver, Colorado, USA.

In the other semi-final, Tonga will take on Japan.
