Oximeters
THE Ministry of Health yesterday received more than 1000 pulse oximeters, hygiene kits for home-based isolation cases and information, education, and communication (IEC) materials from the Fiji Red Cross Society. In a Government statement, Health Minister Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete said the NGO had been an integral part of the ministry’s efforts fight against COVID-19.

Nabua brawl

A large group of men wielding cane knives, pinch bars and iron rods yesterday walked up to the Nabua Housing estate along Mead Rd, and were involved in a brawl there yesterday.
PRB takes action
PUBLIC Rental Board (PRB) acting general manager Patrick Veu says they will only take action against those who were involved in a series of brawls at Nabua Housing in Mead Rd once police release the names of tenants involved.
Brawl a concern
THE series of brawls happening at Sukanaivalu Rd and Nabua Housing estate along Mead Rd is a concern, says Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre coordinator Shamima Ali. She said she was contacted by single mothers who lived at Nabua Housing estate who expressed fear after they witnessed a brawl in the area where men wielded knives, steel rods, stones and sticks.

Security officer in court
SECURITY officer Kaminieli Raqio appeared at the Lautoka Magistrates Court for allegedly forcing and threatening two teenage boys to engage in sexual acts earlier this year.
Lautoka taxidrivers
A GROUP of Lautoka taxidrivers have welcomed the decision by Government to introduce the open taxi rank system. The new system will see taxidrivers have increased access to customers and be able to operate from anywhere within their localities. Lautoka zone taxidriver Amrit Lal said he was pleased with the decision by Government, adding that the new system would allow all drivers to share their customer base. “It’s very good for all taxidrivers, not just the zone taxis,” he said.

THE Fiji Police Force issued 207 public health infringement notices to people who failed to wear masks over the weekend.

THE community of Navutulevu established the Navutulevu Development Enterprises in its effort to get the youths to participate in the economic development of the country. Navutulevu Development Enterprises chairman and also the Serua Provincial Council chair Taito Nakalevu shared this sentiment during the handing over of the portable sawmill, carpentry tools and small machines by the Ministry of Commerce, Trade, Tourism and Transport last week Friday.

Those were the words of former Fiji 7s and Suva rugby rep, and former Fiji Bati, Neori Buli, after he was discharged from hospital last week for injuries he sustained while trying to stop a brawl at the Nabua Housing Estate at Mead Rd, Suva, a fortnight ago. Buli received serious head injuries after he was allegedly attacked by a group of men. The incident was among a series of similar events at the estate.
