THE application for a pro-Palestine march lodged by University of the South Pacific (USP) students has been denied by the Fiji Police Force to ensure the safety of all Fijians, says Home Affairs Minister Pio Tikoduadua. That’s the big news on the front page of The Fiji Times for Wednesday, November 1.
The Republic of Fiji Military Forces has expressed concern with the “non-consultative approach” taken by the Coalition Government in its decision to disapprove the United Nations resolution on Gaza.
In a statement signed off by Commander Major General Jone Kalouniwai, the RFMF said the “decision has significant implications for the safety and security of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) troops currently deployed in the Middle East”.
When contacted earlier tonight, Mr Tikoduadua said he would have a word with Maj-Gen Kalouniwai about his statement when he returned to office on November 3.
We have more reports on Pages 2 and 3.
We also have two more stories on the front page.
Fijians will be paying more for fuel and gas from November 1. Kerosene goes up by 14 cents a liter while cooking gas will increase by $2.16. Diesel and premix prices are also up by 20cents and 10cents respectively. The fuel price review in Fiji follows a one-month lag period, said the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC).
And the US is pumping in more money into the region.
Kaila!
