An incomplete corrugated iron home in the quiet community of Voivoi, Legalega, Nadi, was never empty and always had people coming and going.

While some neighbours found this active movement of people strange, it did not make them suspicious enough for them to raise the alarm.

The home which was never vacant had a container in front of it, and sort of blended well with the rest of the houses in the settlement.

Residents thought the visitors were relatives of the owner of the home who began construction work five years ago.

Last Sunday, to their shock, they found out exactly what was happening when police swooped in and seized up to three tonnes of methamphetamine from the site.

Yesterday, authorities warned criminals and drug traffickers attempting to use Fiji as a transit point for hard drugs that their activities will be “crushed” by law enforcement.

Home Affairs Minister Pio Tikoduadua said drugs was a liability that was “killing people” and the problem had escalated because no real action was taken against it for a long time.

He said the drug problem was a really big issue and the drug bust last week provided the opportunity for authorities to “crush it”, adding that police had been talking to persons of interest.

Members of the public have also been urged to come forward if they have any information related to the seizure of the three tonnes of methamphetamine
