With the stroke of a pen and the promise of a minimum $65million start-up investment, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has heralded the establishment of the medicinal cannabis industry in Fiji.

With Cabinet’s approval of a policy framework to establish the industry, New Zealand-based medicinal cannabis company Medical Kiwi has entered into a partnership with the Trade Ministry to establish a framework for cooperation and collaboration for the development of medicinal cannabis. That’s the big news on the front page of The Fiji Times for Friday, February 9.

In the second story in Page 1, read about how a man went from messing around with a toy drum kit at the age of four to the dizzying heights of global music, Abe Rounds has redrawn the history of Fiji’s soundscape by winning a Grammy Award at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. The special feat makes it the first time ever a musician of Fijian heritage has ever won the prestigious award. Rounds said from Los Angeles, USA, where he lives: “I am proud of my Fijian side.”
