This is what ITaukei Land Trust Board North regional manager Buinimasi Bese told the farmers during this week’s land consultation in Labasa.
He said with the rapid growth of Labasa Town, landowners are realizing the value of their land was also increasing.
He cited a case where a landowning unit in Labasa was paid $700,000 as premium for an upcoming major investment – and pointed out the land would have fetched a mere $13,000 to $14,000 if it was given out as an agricultural lease.
