Tucibi Matavesi, affectionately known as the “barbecue boy,” has been crowned Mr Vodafone Friendly North 2025.

Sponsored by Hometown Hardware, the 19-year-old not only bagged the top title but also won best talent and Mr Personality.

“I didn’t expect to win at all. I was just asked to join, and I came here to build my confidence in public speaking and share my message about drug abuse,” he said.

What stood out most about Matavesi wasn’t just his charm, but his heart.

Despite facing tough competition, he stood firm on his advocacy and always kept his focus on his roots—family, community, and a better future.

“I felt really emotional today. My parents and supporters came all the way from Suva to cheer me on. This win is for them.”

His rise to victory was no easy feat. From helping his mom run a small business to balancing the pressures of the competition, he showed what dedication really means.

When asked about his next steps, he said, he would take one step at a time.

“Right now, I’m helping my mom, and after that, we’ll see what happens. There’s no plan yet—just taking it one day at a time.”

The Miss Vodafone Friendly North 2025 will be crowned tonight at Subrail Park in Labasa.
