HUNDREDS are expected to attend this year’s La Fête de la musique schedule to take place today until Friday this week.

The yearly event celebrated in France on June 21 would feature the genres of music that include the three-member “Les 3 Petits Cochons” (The 3 Little Pigs) a rock band from New Caledonia as guests.

The event was initiated in 1982 by the French Government aimed to take music to the streets and be accessible to all.

The minister of culture in France wanted music to come out of conservatories, concert halls and operas and besiege the streets. During the day, classical musicians, jazz and contemporary music fills the streets. The year’s concert at the Fiji Museum is free, all aimed at promoting song and dance.

The event is celebrated in more than 150 countries in the five continents and because of the International Date Line Fiji is recognised as the first in the world to celebrate it.

On Wednesday June 21, the New Caledonian musicians will hold master classes for students of St Joseph School followed by Suva Grammar School the next day.

This music band journey in Fiji is sponsored by the New Caledonia Government and the French Embassy in Fiji and would host a live show on Thursday June 22, at O’Reilly’s nigthclub, 10:30pm — free entrance. “The band “Les 3 Petits Cochons” would perform and also at the Museum concert the next day.

The concert will begin from 3pm to 11pm. It is an event for friends and families. The first part of the concert would be dedicated to children and performances by Suva Grammar School choir, the International School of Suva, a dance performance from Hilton School and the presence of the young students from VOU Dance.

The event is also an opportune time for amateur musicians to bring their performances to the stage, showcase their talents and get recognition.

Food and drinks would be available for free thanks to Hot Bred Kitchen and Top Dog Catering. Tuckers ice-cream.

Alliance Française would sell home-made crêpes, a french delicacy. There would be other activities for everyone at the Fiji Museum. Bring the family and children can enjoy the magical shows, prize giveaways and more.
