The Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) has reminded all individuals and businesses that a valid Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) is now a mandatory requirement for opening and maintaining mobile wallet accounts.
In a statement, FRCS said the requirement is in line with the 2025–2026 National Budget Promulgation, which requires all customers to update their details with their respective e-wallet service providers no later than 31 December 2025.
“FRCS strongly urges all customers to obtain a valid TIN if they do not already have one and to update their account details with their e-wallet service providers well before the deadline,” the authority said.
FRCS also highlighted additional requirements for businesses, stating that all businesses must maintain a separate e-wallet account exclusively for business transactions.
“These accounts must be correctly registered with a valid TIN and used solely for business purposes,” the statement said.
Under the new provisions of the Tax Administration Act, FRCS warned that non-compliance may attract a fine of up to $25,000, imprisonment for a term not exceeding 10 years, or both. Failure to comply may also result in the suspension of services by e-wallet providers.
FRCS said it is working closely with all licensed e-wallet service providers to ensure a smooth implementation of the new requirements.
“We strongly encourage individuals and businesses to take timely action to avoid service disruptions and potential penalties,” FRCS said, thanking taxpayers for their cooperation in strengthening financial transparency and compliance.
