The Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) has warned that investigations are underway into the importation of vape products that have entered Fiji without the required permits, describing any attempt to smuggle such items as a serious offence.

In a statement, FRCS said it has observed a significant increase in online advertisements promoting the sale of vape products, raising concerns about compliance with importation laws.

The authority reminded the public that importing vape products for commercial purposes requires an official permit issued by the Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MOHMS).

FRCS stressed that any vape products imported without the necessary permits will be confiscated.

“In a recent case, FRCS detected a consignment that was not only imported without a valid permit but was also declared with an incorrect quantity compared to what was actually imported,” the statement said.

The authority said attempts to smuggle vape products or to provide false or misleading information on import declarations constitute serious offences under customs and revenue laws.

Such breaches, FRCS warned, will result in forfeiture of the goods and may lead to further regulatory and enforcement action.

FRCS has urged individuals and businesses involved in importing vape products to ensure they are fully compliant with all legal requirements before shipping goods into the country.

“All persons intending to import vape products are strongly advised to consult with the Ministry of Health and Medical Services to ensure full compliance with the relevant importation requirements,” FRCS said.

The authority added that it will continue monitoring imports and online activity closely and will take firm action against those attempting to circumvent regulations, as part of its efforts to protect public health and uphold border security.
