Fijian Drua scrum-half Frank Lomani spoke at a medical camp in Visoqo Village, Namuka, yesterday and shared a heartfelt journey of how a boy from humble beginnings chased—and achieved—his dream of playing rugby for the nation.

His dream began when he was just a Year 4 student listening in awe to rugby greats like Waisale Serevi and William Ryder, he said.

With humour, he recounted how he borrowed $50 from an uncle who appeared “a little tipsy” in Savusavu town.

He said he used used $46 for a boat fare to Suva, spent $2 on a simple roti and curry meal, and saved the last $2.

That decision, he said, was one of many that shaped his path.

He told those at the medical camp to “keep talking to your children”.

“The best thing you can do is to encourage the children to focus on being a better person,” he said.

“Keep speaking words of wisdom to them”.

“For all the critical health issues shared by the nurses today, I pray that the kids we have out here can live a life that have had valuable lessons within the home. We owe them a good future.”

The medical camp was organised by Fiji Pine Limited.
