A joint effort by Fiji Navy, Australian Defence Force and New Zealand Navy today rescued four people on-board a yacht.
The Fiji Navy, through the Rescue Coordination Center (RCC) Fiji, received a mayday relay from RCC New Zealand early this morning.
It was related to the sailing yacht Lucky Jonny, which had four people on board.
The yacht departed New Zealand on April 13, 2025, en route for Fiji but lost its rudder approximately 102 nautical miles southeast of Suva.
“While en route to a scheduled port call in Suva, the ADV (Australian Defence Vessel) Reliant offered assistance after hearing the mayday call and was diverted to conduct the rescue,” said Fiji Navy.
“Despite challenging weather conditions, the ADV Reliant located and rescued the crew of the distressed yacht and is now towing it back to Suva.’
