Four kilometres from home: Lost dog “Ranger” reunited after Navua beach rescue

A German Shepherd that wandered nearly four kilometres from home has been safely reunited with its owner following a chance discovery on a Navua beach.

Lawyer Aca Rayawa shared on social media that his sons had gone to collect coconuts when they noticed the dog alone and unsupervised.

“At the beach they saw this German Shepherd jumping into the sea and enjoying the beach by himself,” he said.

The dog later followed them back to their base camp, where Rayawa realised it was lost.

“He looked like he was asking for help. I told him in Fijian not to worry and promised I would find his family.”

He said the dog willingly jumped into his car as they travelled to Nausori, where he posted online notices.

Owner Nikhish Nilesh soon responded, identifying the dog as “Ranger.”

“I called his name and his eyes lit up,” Rayawa said.

Ranger was returned to Navua, bringing relief—though his temporary carers were sad to say goodbye.
