Four teams from Fiji have shown their interest in participating in the highly anticipated Oceania Football Confederation Professional League, with Fiji FA CEO Mohammed Yusuf confirming that the names of the teams will be unveiled by the end of March.
This league, slated to commence in January 2026, has generated a considerable amount of interest, receiving 24 expressions of interest from various countries within the region.
Among the 24 expressions, there are six teams each from New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and Australia, four from Fiji, and two from New Caledonia, with one team each from Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tahiti, and Vanuatu.
The process of finalising the necessary documentation for these interested teams is currently underway and is expected to be completed by the end of March.
While the names of the teams from Fiji are yet to be disclosed, Yusuf emphasised that they are diligently working towards fulfilling the requirements set by the OFC Pro league.
“We cannot reveal any teams until the end of the month, they are busy preparing, there is a lot of documentation required.
“The league will operate in a professional manner, with pre-season training beginning in November and matches scheduled to commence on January 10, following a tournament format that will run until the end of May,” said Yusuf.
“The competition for spots in the league is fierce, particularly with six applications from New Zealand.”
Yusuf remains optimistic that Fiji may secure at least two spots in the league.
With a promising lineup of eight premier teams from the Pacific, the Oceania Football Confederation Professional League aims to set new standards for performance, competition, and opportunities within the sport across Oceania.
