Renowned former Hindi radio broadcaster, musician and teacher, Ambika Nand has passed away in Australia.
Mr Nand was an announcer and programmer with Fiji Broadcasting Corporation’s Radio Fiji 2 network from the late 1970’s to later 1990.
He was from Borotu in Rakiraki.
Mr Nand is best remembered for visiting rural parts of Fiji to record interviews with farmers and also record traditional songs and bhajans.
One of his programs, Sthaniye Kalakaron Ke Geet (Songs from Local Artists) gave local artists a platform to air their talent and ignited interest in locals to keep their musical talents alive.
He also worked for Radio Navtarang for some time and taught Hindi at Rishikul College before migrating to Brisbane.
