Former politician Ratu Tu’akitau Cokanauto and his former wife Taraivosa Daucakacaka renewed their vows in front of close family and friends in a solemn wedding ceremony at the Wesley City Mission Church in Butt St, Suva yesterday.
The couple decided to rekindle their vows after being separated for 30 years.
Ms Daucakacaka said the day brought back beautiful memories of the day of their wedding in 1985.
“It’s been a long journey and all I want to say is that this could not have happened if God was not in it and I just want to give glory to God that He made it possible,” she said.
“We’ve always connected. It’s an over the years restoration which happened slowly.
“The proposal happened without me expecting anything, but it happened last year, but I prayed about it and I got confirmation from scripture that I should say yes again because the restoration was from God.”
She said they had their weaknesses and differences, but everything was possible through forgiveness.
Eldest son Ratu Penaia Kadavulevu, walked his mother down the aisle and witnessed the marriage between his beloved parents.
“I’m feeling pretty blessed and I’m looking forward to life as a family together and seeing it through,” he said.
“It hasn’t been easy, mom’s perseverance and her upbringing for my brother and I and seeing the strength that she’s had to carry us through.
“For her and my Ratu getting back together, to see it come to fruition is a blessing; I wasn’t here for the first one but I’m glad to be here for the second one.
“Love is out there and just keep preserving and trusting God and everything will come in a full circle.”
