Former member of Parliament and SODELPA general secretary Adi Litia Qionibaravi has withdrawn her application to appeal charges of corruption made against her while she was an Opposition MP.
Her lawyer, Jagath Karunaratne, made the submission before Justice Chandana Prematilaka at the Court of Appeal in Nasese yesterday.
Mr Karunaratne said a notice of abandonment on the appeal has been filed by Adi Litia who was not in a position to continue with the process. A ruling on this application would be made on January 15 next year.
Also appearing before Justice Prematilaka were former MPs Niko Nawaikula and Ratu Suliano Matanitobua who were found guilty of corruption last year.
Mr Nawaikula said he had filed his application for leave which was a motion seeking permission to deviate from an established rule or procedure of the court.
He said the application was filed during their last appearance and had been waiting for a response from FICAC whose lawyer, Darren Hickes, said they would need to respond to the submissions.
Ratu Suliano who was represented by Joji Cakau, has yet to file his own application for leave.
Mr Cakau said he had not received submissions by Ratu Suliano’s former counsels, adding that these were needed for the appeal.
The case has been adjourned to January 15 next year for mention.
