Fiji Airways Fijian 7s debutant Apete Narogo says he is ready to give everything for Fiji as he prepares to make his first appearance on the World Rugby Sevens Series stage in Dubai this weekend.
Narogo, 23, from Nakorovou in Serua, is the only new player named by head coach Osea Kolinisau in the travelling 13-member squad.
The young speedster said rugby has been his dream since high school.
“I started playing when I was in Year 9 going into Year 10, and when I reached Year 11, I wanted to play so badly,” he said.
“Many times, while I was still in Lomary Secondary School, I skipped school to go and play.”
Narogo said his passion for the sport grew stronger as he got older.
“When I reached Year 12, I did not sit for one major exam because I went to play at the Wairiki 7s. That was when I realised that my talent was to be a rugby player. I thank God for his plans for me, and I give Him the praises.”
The moment he received the news of his debut was emotional.
“I was happy because I was trying hard to don the national jersey. When I was still in school , I always watched players like Waisea Nacuqu on TV, Sevu Mocenacagi, and Donasio Ratubuli from Galoa, Serua,” he said.
Narogo said those players inspired him, and now it is his turn to make his people proud.
“It gives me a big push. These players represented their province, and I’m also representing my vanua, especially my family.”
The Fijian 7s team is currently in Qatar and will cross over to Dubai this who will be joined by the Fiji Airways Fijiana team.
