It was confirmed last night that an appeal against the deregistration of the FijiFirst party has been lodged with the Electoral Commission (EC).
The deadline for the appeal from former party members was yesterday.
The Registrar of Political Parties Ana Mataiciwa had deregistered the party on July 1 and those aggrieved by this decision had 15 days to appeal with the EC.
Two separate sources within the group who have not shown their support to the Coalition Government last night confirmed an appeal had been lodged.
“Please get the details from the Electoral Commission. We don’t want to jeopardise the application process,” said a former party member.
EC chairperson Barbara Malimali said she couldn’t comment on the issue.
A ruling by the Electoral Commission will be final and binding and can’t be challenged in any court of law.
